Tuesday: There's been an awakening..

Welcome to your latest Tuesday post!

The Winter Classic is underway and what a fantastic game it is.. Some of the best WC jersey's I've seen in years. I love the look of both teams but I feel that Boston has the edge. when it comes to aesthetics. The way the yellow pops on the black jerseys; the thick arm stripes; the beige numbers; the call back to several of their old  jerseys, and not to mention that new "B" logo. As a graphic designer myself, I really enjoy everything they did with that jersey. Montreal's jersey is equally as beautiful with a fan favorite logo and unique color scheme this year. Reebok did a fantastic job this year on the WC jerseys including the felt logos and sweater style collars, so hats off to them..

HJC is in full swing of our Concept Of The Year vote. So make sure to get your Google account verified and click on the tab to the right or top of the page and VOTE!! Choose wisely.

On to the concepts..

Star Wars Republic- Fin

Fin brings us a simple but effective rendition of a Star Wars Galactic Empire jersey. I feel like this bounces off a few ideas seen over at geekyjerseys.com which I've always been a fan of. As a long-time Star Wars fan, and with the release of the Force Awakens, this jersey is timed very well for the site. Nice touch using the Aurebesh font since it's the "basic language used in the galaxy" in Star Wars. However, to non-fans or fans for that matter, it might be hard for people to understand the name. Overall I enjoy the simple striping, basic logo and look of this jersey but it doesn't blow me away. It's to the point and does what it needs to.

Las Vegas Spades- John Smith

John attacks a team out in Las Vegas. Rumors of teams moving there have been going on for years now. I feel it's possible for a team to end up there with Bettman's love for the city, the NHL Awards being held there every year, and not to mention to initial stages of seeing if enough people would purchase season tickets. The color scheme used is a little off putting with the gray but I do like the red & black as a homage to the two colors used in the suites of cards. The sectioning of colors on the jersey is a little off with the whacky multi-colored pants & socks. It's not the most "traditional" but I do like the overall idea of the jersey. With a little tweaking this could be pretty cool.

Los Angeles Kings: Stadium Series- RH

I thoroughly enjoy people's adaptations of Stadium Series jersey because you can practically  do anything with them. The NHL has no one template they use every year so who knows what next years will bring? For the life of me I'll never understand why fans don't get why there are LARGE NUMBERS on the jerseys, but we'll just let them keep complaining.. RH brings to the table a semi-old school looking Burger Kings jersey. I personally don't like the "burger king" King's logo but I won't let that hinder my opinion on a design. I love the chest stripes and color scheme of this. It has a very new-school and old-school vibe to it which is a unique idea. I'd like to see the equipment with this design as well because I feel that's a huge factor if a jersey will look good on the ice or not.

Colorado Avalanche- Rocky

In many people's opinion's Colorado is in need of a serious jersey overhaul. Rocky takes a stab at maybe a third jersey? I'm a sucker for a really well done beige jersey so A+ on that. The new Colorado "C" logo is always a nice touch being used as the main logo. The striping also really stands out to me being very similar looking to the logo. It would be cool to see this template in a dark jersey as well and the equipment to go along with it.

COTW NOMINATION!

Flint Firebirds- Player Eight

Flint unfortunately didn't use the name & designs that DBRO came up with what we got was a decent alternative. Player Eight changes their idea into something a little more simple. With a loss of the Sabres' yellow third jersey feel, and more of a traditional style jersey, P8 simplifies the striping and weird jersey cuts on their current jerseys. I do like Flint's jerseys but this concept has more of a traditional hockey feel to it. I don't love it only because I don't think it's that huge of an improvement over their current set.
